SHANGHAI: Volkswagen unveiled its third ID.6 electric car at the Shanghai Motor Show on Saturday.
The versatile multivariable model can accommodate up to seven people. The ID.6 is a continuation of Volkswagen’s regionalization strategy and is another important step towards becoming the most sought-after brand for sustainable mobility in China, the German automaker said.
Two versions of the fully electric family SUV are available: the ID.6 CROZZ01 is made in the north of China and the ID.6 X01 in the south of the country.

Like VW’s other electric offensives, the third limb is also based on the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB). The ID.6 fully exploits the strengths of MEB: it enables consistent high quality worldwide, with equally high standards, and also allows the development of individual models specifically for certain markets or regions of the world. The ID.6 is specifically tailored to the needs and wishes of Chinese customers in terms of space, functionality, design and, in particular, user experience, the company informed.
The most spacious model in the ID. family to date has gone in the direction of a lot of interior space and creates design highlights in lighting and material. The two available batteries have a storage capacity of 58 kWh and 77 kWh of net battery capacity, and allow a range of between 436 and 588 km (China NEDC). The battery is located under the passenger cabin, ensuring a low center of gravity. The e-machines of the 4MOTION version produce a power of 225 kW (305 PS) – enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 seconds and for a top speed of 160 km / h.

The 4.88-meter ID.6 uses Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB) architecture, separating spaces for people and technology in innovative ways and to the benefit of passengers. Thanks to an additional length of 30 centimeters compared to the ID.43, the ID.6 accommodates a third row of seats. Features of the ID.6 include 19-inch to 21-inch rims, a second row of longitudinally adjustable seats and a large panoramic glass roof. An opening panoramic sunroof is available as an option.
The e-SUV comes without physical buttons and switches. The operating concept uses a 12 inch display with touchscreen and “Hello ID”. voice command. The innovative identifier. Light – a narrow light strip under the windshield – offers the driver intuitive assistance. An augmented reality head-up display is available as an option, which merges certain notifications with reality – for example, the navigation system’s turn arrows are projected onto the correct lane on the road.
IQ.Drive assistance systems make driving even more relaxed; including Travel Assist. The software and hardware of the ID.6 have an innovative architectural design, allowing customers to update their cars after purchase.
“With the new ID.6, we are laying the groundwork for at least 50% of our cars sold in China to be electric by 2030,” said Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of the Volkswagen brand. “We are maintaining our momentum and gradually increasing our range of MEB cars: by 2023 Volkswagen will have a total of eight IDs. models in China, making MEB nationwide there. The economies of scale we have achieved allow us to offer the latest technology at an affordable price – and thus further expand our electricity offensive. ”
