The Renault 5 prototype meets its siblings at the Munich Motor Show

The emblematic Renault 5 is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The sparkling fifties now has descendants: the Renault 5 Prototype will give birth to a production model in 2024.

The soul of a brand is born from its heritage. To pay homage to such a heritage and rekindle the spirit of yesteryear, a brand must stay true to its origins and draw inspiration from within. This is the role assigned to the Renault 5 Prototype. It will show how Renault is set to make electric cars widely available across Europe with a modern take on a popular but essential car, just as its dashing ancestor did in its heyday.

Renault 5 Prototype is a compact city car full of charm that propels one of Renault’s classics into the future, with a modern 100% electric touch. True to its fun and playful character, the yellow body color really stands out.

Gilles Vidal and his Design team were inspired by an emblematic model from Renault’s past known throughout the world with great success: the Renault 5. The general look of the Renault 5 Prototype is inspired by the original design. Yet the modern approach is visible in the shapes of the car, but also in the selected trims and materials that draw inspiration from the worlds of electronics, furniture and sports.

The Munich Motor Show will be the perfect opportunity to discover – or rediscover – the Renault 5 Prototype, but also to take a trip back in time by diving into the heritage of the “diamond” with a showcase of four models that marked the life of the Renault 5. The exhibition will include an orange TL, a black Le Car Van, a blue electric model and a champagne-colored TX.
