The 8th Philippines International Motor Show will be held in 2022

Did you visit on the opening day of the Manila International Auto Show?

Judging by the impression we got when we entered the main hall of the World Trade Center Manila, many of you did. And it seems that many in the automotive industry were also eager to revive major auto shows. You can see it with big screens that we haven’t seen since the last MIAS in 2019.

Needless to say, the wider auto industry is watching developments at MIAS closely, especially the leaders and organizers of the country’s other major auto show: PIMS.

Unlike MIAS (which is organized by Worldbex), the Philippines International Auto Show is organized by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), an industry association that includes major industry players. CAMPI members include Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda, Isuzu, Suzuki, Kia, Volkswagen and many more.

And now we can confirm it: The Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) will take place this year. This information comes from the leaders of the PIMS members, but I contacted the president of CAMPI, Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, and he quickly replied:

“Yes Vince. Inggit kami sa MIAS. Ha ha.

He was joking of course, but that’s also a good sign. The industry has struggled to cope with a pandemic (why buy cars when you can’t get out?), but it can now see the bright side and with a positive outlook for the future.

This will be the 8th time the event has been held as PIMS usually takes place every two years. The last PIMS dates back to 2018, while the 2020 edition was canceled due to the pandemic.

Atti. Gutierrez says there is no theme for PIMS yet, but given that the wider global automotive industry is represented by CAMPI members, we expect a lot of efficient cars (with or without electrification) as well as battery electric vehicles.

While the MIAS takes place in April, the Philippine International Motor Show usually takes place around September. An insider told us that the 8th PIMS is actually on the WTC calendar: September 15-18, 2022.

The venue has always been the World Trade Center Manila, although the last edition had an extension to the SMX Convention Center.
