GWM Tank 800 Unveiled As New Luxury Flagship At Shanghai Auto Show

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan-inspired plush SUV features huge reclining rear seats, custom cushions, a champagne bar, and touch screens for passengers.

GWM’s Tank 800 full-size SUV prototype was unveiled overnight at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show, destined to become the brand’s flagship luxury offering.

Much like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan – whose inspiration was clearly drawn – the Tank 800 gets a star roof liner, privacy curtains, full-size reclining rear seats, integrated door umbrellas, touch screens for passengers, personalized cushions, a champagne bar, and automatic doors.

The interior appears to be covered with Alcantara-type microfiber, while aluminum highlights cover the dashboard, steering wheel, center console and door sills.

Propulsion for the “near production” vehicle comes from a 3.0-liter V6 plug-in hybrid unit, and this is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

A production variant is expected to launch in China next year. GWM has yet to comment on the prospect of an international launch, but, at least in the short term, it seems unlikely.
